September Collister Connection

On August 20th, our Eagles took flight for Collister Expectations Day! Students traveled with their classrooms to different areas of the school to practice the expectations that help make Collister a safe, welcoming, and successful place to learn. From the cafeteria to the hallways and playground, students learned and practiced what it looks like to SOAR throughout our school.

We’re proud of our Eagles for learning how to Show Respect, Others Matter, Act Safely, and Be Responsible!

Families, you can help us keep the momentum going by talking with your child about what it means to SOAR at school. Together, we can make sure every Eagle knows how to spread kindness, make safe choices, and help our Collister community shine!

At Collister, we love catching students doing the right thing! When staff see students demonstrating one of our school-wide expectations—Show Respect, Others Matter, Act Safely, or Be Responsible—they may receive a SOAR Card!

Students will place their SOAR Cards in their classroom basket, and every two weeks, we’ll draw a name from each classroom. Lucky Eagles whose names are drawn will be invited to the office to choose a special prize from our SOAR Prize Box!

Families, help us keep the SOAR spirit going at home by talking with your child about what it means to Show Respect, remember that Others Matter, Act Safely, and Be Responsible.

We can’t wait to celebrate all the ways our Eagles SOAR!

Girls basketball for 5th and 6th grade students begins this month! Please see the linked information for additional details and permission forms. Paper copies of all forms went home on Monday and are due Friday, September 4th.

Coach Weinstein is looking forward to another great season and is excited to get our Eagles on the court!

The Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) is a statewide early literacy assessment designed to evaluate foundational reading skills in students from kindergarten through third grade. It helps educators identify students who may be at risk for dyslexia or may need additional support and informs targeted interventions to improve literacy outcomes. Idaho State Statute section 33-1806 requires that all public school students in kindergarten and grades 1, 2, and 3 have their early literacy skills assessed. The IRI is delivered by Amira Learning. This assessment also serves as our dyslexia screener for 4th-5th graders, which is required by State Statute 33-1811.

Drill Week: This week, we will be practicing our school safety drills. Drills include a hall check, an evacuation, a reverse evacuation, shelter-in-place and a lockdown drill in collaboration with the Boise Police Department. These drills help ensure that students and staff know what to do and where to go in a variety of emergency situations. More information to come.
