October 2026 Issue

Wastewater monitoring shows three illnesses trending up in our area over the past few weeks:

  • Enterovirus and COVID-19 — both respiratory
  • Norovirus — the stomach bug

Handwashing — Soap, warm water, 20 seconds — it's the single best thing your family can do this month.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with an elbow, not a hand
  • Keep your child home when they're sick
  • Seasonal flu vaccines are available if you'd like one
A horizontal green banner with rounded corners features the white text 'IN THE CLASSROOM'.

Health & Illness

This month I'm teaching Health & Illness to every grade, K–6. We cover what germs are and how they spread, how the immune system defends the body, what vaccines do, good hygiene, how to cover a cough or sneeze, and — most important — proper handwashing.

Ask your child what they learned. It sticks much better when it's reinforced at home.

Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th Grade Dental and Vision Screenings

Vision screenings will be performed the week of Monday, October 19

Dental screenings will be done on Tuesday, October 27

Nothing is needed from you. We'll be in touch if we see anything worth a follow-up with your provider.
A solid green banner featuring the white text IMMUNIZATIONS.
  • Immunization reports go to the state at the end of this month.
  • We'll reach out if we have questions about your child's required vaccines.
  • An exemption form is available if you need one — just ask.
  • If your child has had any new immunizations, please send us the updated record.

Closing

One more thing: please let us know about any injury, illness, or change in your child's health that might call for accommodations or activity restrictions at school — a cast, crutches, no PE or recess, anything like that.

Happy Halloween, and here's to a healthy October.
